El12

EL12 At its Zenith: A Clockwork Fantasy

Frontier and scansion of continuity, accident and guarantor of fluidity, it’s displayed on our walls, clutches our wrists and subjects us to its cycles. A relentless marker, 12 has the finitude and perfection of the reconciler of beginning and end.

We live under the rule of a monarch, debonair or hateful, adored or hated, tyrannical or magnanimous: The measure of 12 beats rules our discipline, flamenco, just as it rules our troubled relationship with temporality.

Acclaimed by critics, El12 was launched in Montreal in 2010 and nominated for Outstanding Production at Toronto’s Dora Moore Awards the same year. This contemporary flamenco piece features a dancer and four musicians, staged around the theme of the number twelve and the passage of time. Co-produced by Place des Arts and Danse Danse, El12 has been touring since its creation in 2010, and has been warmly applauded wherever it goes.
